Amanda is an outgoing 25-year-old woman who enjoys living at home in the community along with her mom. She has challenges with a rare physical disability that affects her ability to be independent without support. Growing up, her mom provided a lot of her care, yet Amanda craved to have further independence.

With affordable housing as one of the top news stories across Canada and a part of the current election, PHARA Community Services (PHARA) remains confident and hopeful that saving the 48-unit affordable housing complex, at 122 Massey Drive, will be a priority for local, provincial, and federal governments.

PHARA's "SAVE MASSEY" campaign, launched in early March, is gaining the attention of key community supporters for both the affordable housing supplied by the residential buildings at 122 Massey Drive, as well as the critical Assisted Living services provided to some residents.

It has been a little over a week since PHARA launched the "SAVE MASSEY - Everyone and Every-Body Deserves a Home" campaign and so far, the feedback from the community and government officials has been very positive. With a focus on maintaining the residential building at 122 Massey Drive, PHARA launched a campaign to raise the $7.9 million needed to properly repair the building and save the 48 units where families live.

Today, PHARA Community Services (PHARA) announced the launch of the capital fundraising campaign “SAVE MASSEY: Everyone and Every-Body Deserves a Home” seeking $7.9 million for the immediate structural rebuild of its 48-unit affordable housing complex at 122 Massey Drive, North Bay. The building provides rental options including Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) subsidized rent, market rent, and numerous units designated for Assisted Living services.

Jeff, 74, lives independently in his own apartment in North Bay. Jeff was managing his medical challenges well on his own, until he needed knee replacement surgery. It was after his knee replacement that Jeff started accessing PHARA’s Outreach program.

PHARA Community Services recently honored Motion for 40 years of dedicated service in the mobility and accessibility industry. A special commemorative plaque was presented to Motion by PHARA, recognizing their ongoing commitment to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities across the region.

For 50 years, the Physically Handicapped Adults’ Rehabilitation Association (PHARA) has been providing services that promote independence, health and housing services in North Bay and surrounding area. In celebration of their 51st year the organization is now formally known as PHARA Community Services.
